template-based
design

Sometimes, you just want a more drastic change!  If you feel a simple edit and update will not do what you want to accomplish, consider a template-based Web page redesign. Using templates provides a more affordable Web design option and a quicker turnaround than designing a site from scratch.  Most sites can be easily completed in less than a month, depending largely on your schedule.

This basic process has proven successful in designing many Web projects

  1. Contact the Web Page Editor so we can discuss, briefly, your project and determine if our collaboration will result in Web pages we can produce (see a list of our limitations here) and a Web site you will be proud of. Before we talk, you might

    • "shop" for some Web pages / Web sites that are similar to the vision you have for your pages
    • list some possible domain names you would like to be considered, if you are expanding or starting out
    • (if you wish, you can research domain name availability here)
    • shop for a few templates that you would like to be considered
  2. If a collaboration seems advantageous, we will need to discuss the project in more depth:

    • refer to the list of URLs you made, the pages / sites you liked
    • submit a rough draft for the text you want to post
    • decide on a domain name or network of domain names
    • decide which template will work best
  3. the Web Page Editor will provide a proposal that states a maximum estimate and a schedule for creating and designing your Web page(s). If you accept the proposal, you will need to

  4. the Web Page Editor will be happy to assist with any details related to these purchases and will even help you make actual purchases. You are not required to use these recommended service providers, but the Web Page Editor has used them in numerous projects and has found them to be a best value, with particular weight given to ease of use and reliability for the expense. the Web Page Editor may, however, change service providers at any time if price, reliability, or other factors change in a negative way. the Web Page Editor may have an affiliate agreement with these service providers.

  5. When the deposit and other components have been provided, the Web Page Editor will

    • develop a draft "link cloud" of your site
    • unveil some sample Web page templates

At this time, you should begin searching for artwork (the Web Page Editor will provide dimensions when you are ready).  the Web Page Editor will be happy to assist with artwork research and will even help you make actual purchases. Note that you are not required to use  iStockphoto  or  stock.xchng  or any other recommended artwork provider, but the Web Page Editor has used both of these resources in numerous projects and has found the service and art from both to be a best value, with particular weight given to ease of research, ease of access, quality of art, and expense (in addition, the art is royalty free and relatively restriction free). the Web Page Editor may, nonetheless, change service providers at any time if price, reliability, or other factors change in a negative way. the Web Page Editor does not have an affiliate agreement or any other interest in  iStockphoto  or  stock.xchng.

  6. Once you have approved the draft link cloud, the Web Page Editor will begin placing text on the pages. Once you furnish the results of your search for artwork, the Web Page Editor will begin placing art on the pages. Pages will be posted live on the World Wide Web so that you and any reviewers you might designate will be able to view and test the pages.

    • a maximum of  two  rounds of changes will be allowed for each Web page, without extra charge
    • art may be swapped or resized once without extra charge
  7. As the project nears completion, the Web Page Editor will work with you to invent and code a search engine friendly page title, relevant keywords, and other meta data into the structure of each page. (the Web Page Editor can provide a list of keyword research tools for your use.) While many experts no longer promote the use of meta data, many others—including  writers for Website Magazine—still find merit in their continued use (as has my experience).  Other meta tags that are usually encouraged include description, organization, author, and location.

  8. And, that's that!  Congratulations are in order:  your Web pages are live and ready for additional, advanced work; initial SEO efforts; and advertising campaigns—work for which you'll need professionals who are specialized in those areas.
